Gardner Annual Report

Reaching New Heights in Economic Growth

David Knopick

Community Development Director

Growth and development in Gardner remained positive throughout 2023. External factors such as inflation, increased interest rates, and supply chain and labor issues continued to impact the building industry and various aspects of the planning and development process. Despite these challenges, Gardner continued to grow as private investment in the community exceeded $60 million in valuation. This investment was facilitated through the issuance of 875 building permits, 184 of which were for new single-family residential units. New Census Bureau estimates indicate that Gardner’s population has exceeded 25,000 people. Additionally, with continued residential development occurring throughout Gardner, it is anticipated that new residential growth will continue to diversify and fuel future commercial interest in the community.

Economic development is our foremost priority

as we propel Gardner toward becoming a thriving and prosperous community. In 2023, we made significant progress in diversifying our housing options and expanding our business growth. Gardner’s substantial population growth is driven by its emergence as a destination hub for workers from neighboring cities, which are experiencing commercial expansion but lack essential amenities. Moving forward, we will continue to explore new economic opportunities to bolster our economy, enhance residents’ quality of life, attract visitors, and secure Gardner’s future as a city of choice.
